Your Life DOES Matter!
Good parents could never stop loving their child. They never cease working to provide the very best for their child, and could never give up hope nor abandon him or her. Yet sometimes it seems that God has done those very things to us.
Life is one discouragement after another for some folks. Some live with a sense of fear and guilt, and their days are filled with hopelessness. Others of us feel unforgivable, unlovable, or that our life is without value and is pointless.
Sometimes people ask, "How could God (or others) ever love me after what I've done?" There are a lot of answers to that question, and here's one short answer: We can't make a mess so big that God can't clean it up.
He's been doing this God-thing for quite a while now, and He's seen it all. The names, faces, and places change, but the list of things humans can mess up is a relatively short list, and well within God's capability to understand and handle.
When we start out on a trip, we have to know two things: where we are now, and the direction we need to go to get to our destination. How fast we travel is only important if we are going the right direction. We usually focus on improving our behavior, but God focuses on improving our character, knowing that character will eventually drive behavior to the desired purpose of our lives.
In the area of life and growth, God is always more concerned with direction than with degree.
He would rather have us take one small step in the right direction (toward Him) than have us put into action some great plan of improvement (busy-ness, even church busy-ness) without real change taking place.
Ask Him about one small thing you can do today do change the direction of your life, then do it gladly. Remember, God is an expert at getting us back on track to experience peace, love, and joy. (Luke 15:3-32)
